On 2 June 2026, FREE4LIB and RESPECT will host their joint Final Event in Brussels and online, bringing together researchers, industry representatives and EU policymakers to discuss the future of Europe’s battery value chain.
After four years of collaborative research and innovation, the event will present key project results and explore how scientific findings can support Europe’s transition towards a more competitive, circular and strategically autonomous battery ecosystem.

As batteries become central to Europe’s industrial and climate ambitions, ensuring sustainable access to critical raw materials and strengthening recycling capacities are increasingly important priorities for the European Union.
The FREE4LIB x RESPECT Final Event will provide a platform for cross-sector dialogue on how research and innovation can contribute to shaping the next generation of EU battery policies and industrial strategies.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage with experts from across the battery value chain and gain insights into the latest developments in battery recycling, material recovery and second-life applications.
To this end, we will release the physical version of our project's Policy Recomendations, a set of learnings from FREE4LIB's research tailored for policymakers. It lays out ways to develop a more cohesive and coherent approach to the Li-batteries design, recovery and recycling and use of secondary raw materials.
The programme will highlight:
The event will also showcase how research outcomes can move beyond the laboratory and contribute to industrial deployment and future EU legislation.
The FREE4LIB x RESPECT Final Event offers a unique opportunity to connect with leading stakeholders working at the intersection of research, industry and public policy.
